Submission Guidelines

The Steel Chisel publishes monthly on the 13th. Submissions are due one week prior to publication, on the 6th.

The Steel Chisel recently changed its fiction publishing policy. Please ensure that you are familiar with the magazine's focus before submitting your work.

Poetry and flash fiction submissions are welcome. All pieces must be kept to a maximum total length of 1,000 words. There are no line limits, and no limitations on the number of pieces an author may submit. The Steel Chisel is currently only publishing Canadian writers. Authors are encouraged to explore the magazine's past issues to achieve a better idea of its criteria and focus.

Submissions may be sent to, in a separate Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format document. Please also include a short bio detailing your location, occupation, and any relevant award/publication accomplishments, preferably written in the third person. Visit the author profile section for examples of how biographical information is formatted.

All submitted works will be subject to editorial review during the week before publication. Authors will be notified if their work has been selected for publication in an upcoming issue. Should you wish to withdraw a submission from consideration for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible.
