Forces of Habit
  Cameron Anstee
"Even when I made no attempt to create darker or lighter lines, in fact attempted to maintain a sameness of pressure, variations occurred. The body tires, the hand tires, the mind tires and the line will tell of this."

Barbara Caruso

cleaning out the office
I found a copy of my birth announcement

the book will gradually take the shape of reading
I am less careful with my own spine

I sign my name
and see the vowels of my father

the suit was tailored years ago
it has grown nonsensical on my body

syllables multiply
I return to a handful of phrases

each follows from failure

by degrees
I am contrite
